Firstly- how do you say Gua sha? "GWAR-"SHAR" now we've got this out the way, what does it do?
"to scrape petechia"
Gua sha, the literal translation being "to scrape petechia" which refers to the sand-like bruising after the treatment, spread from China to Vietnam, where it became very popular.
This bruising doesn't hurt and could be gone by the end of the day or by the end of the week. It is different for everybody. (only on the body, no bruising on the face) Check out my instagram to see videos on what the treatment looks like.
Benefits include:
Face Gua Sha- releasing jaw tension, headaches, sinus problems, anti-aging and sagging, boost circulation, improving puffy eyes, lymphatic drainage, break up fascia
Body Gua Sha- Improving circulation, Lymphatic drainage, break down tension and knots in the muscles, tighten skin, tension headaches
How often should you use Gua Sha on the face?
Gua Sha can be used every day. I recommend having a treatment with me once a month and then aiming to use gua sha at home a minimum of three times a week (so you don't start to find it a chore).
Take a before and after picture and watch the results happen to motivate yourself!
How often should I have a Gua Sha Massage?
Gua sha is great for a full body lymphatic drainage massage or in particular tension around the shoulders and neck. Treatment on the body for tension includes a normal deep tissue or Swedish massage with Gua sha on the extra tight areas. I recommend (as I also do with a normal massage) to aim to have a massage once a week, or once every two weeks until your tension has improved and then once every month or two months for maintenance (your MOT-ha!)
